In March the dance students worked hard every day to master the “Trot” dance, a traditional dance performed at the Khmer New Year time in April. During the New Year holidays in the following month, our Champey Academy team was invited to perform the “Trot” dance at a number of businesses around Phnom Penh. Our dance students always welcome any chance to perform in front of a live audience but, one of the added benefits of performing the New Year’s “Trot” dance is that one of the performers carries pole at the end of which is a cloth bag. To insure good luck and good business in the coming year, the audience is encouraged to place cash into that bag.
